Strain Review: Blueberry Caviar by Ridgeline Farms

For Christmas in 2024, my sister and brother-in-law got me a cannabis tasting notebook from Goldleaf. I thanked them profusely, put it on my desk, and promptly forgot about it.

It’s not that I don’t believe in taking note of one’s cannabis experience – I do. It’s not that I didn’t like the notebook – it’s adorable. But cannabis, for me, has a habitual side. And taking notes while I puff my joint or dry bowl simply isn’t my habit.

I recently rediscovered the notebook while packing to attend the 2026 Emerald Triangle Tour in September. I brought it with me in hopes that I would use it in California to take note of what I was smoking. Spoiler alert – I did not.

What I did do was tour several incredible farms and sample their weed, including Ridgeline Farms in Humboldt County. When Jason gifted me an eighth of his award-winning strain Blueberry Caviar, I knew I finally had good reason to put my cannabis tasting notebook to good use.

About Ridgeline Farms

Ridgeline Farms is owned by Jason Gellman and is located in Humtold County, part of the Emerald Triangle growing region of California. Jason grows flowers two ways: outside in the ground and under mixed light.

I was fortunate enough to visit his sun-grown farm, named for its position on a ridge looking out to Kings Range. In mid-September, the flowers in the ground were practically bursting with thick trichomes and an incredible aroma. It was nearly harvest, and the flowers were at their peak expression.

It’s one thing to hear about sungrown flower; it’s another to walk through the rows of them yourself. Some of the plants were even taller than I was!

It was incredible. It was inspiring. It was a welcome window into the complex world of sun-grown cannabis cultivation.

About Blueberry Caviar Strain

Blueberry Caviar is a highly awarded cross between Grape Gas (Grape Pie x Jet Fuel Gelato) and Lantz, another of Jason’s well-awarded strains from Ridgeline.

In 2026, Ridgeline’s mixed-light Blueberry Caviar strain took home the Golden Bear at the California Cannabis Awards. They also took home a bronze medal for Lantz, one of the parent strains of Blueberry Caviar, as well as a silver medal in CBDa for Blueberry Caviar. In 2025, this strain took home the Golden Bear for indoor flower.

Blueberry Caviar is one of those strains that doesn’t exist in Leafly or Weedmaps. If you know Jason, Ridgeline, or California genetics, then you know.

Blueberry Caviar Strain Review

Appearance

The buds of Blueberry Caviar are stunning. They’re deep and multi-hued, with pops of deep blue, dark purple, and rich shades of green from the bottom to the tops of the flowers. These bulbous flowers look like they’ve been dipped in confectioner’s sugar; they glisten with the white trichome coating that covers each bud.

It was incredibly sticky once it was ground up; the kind of flower that holds the rolling paper in place once you’ve tucked it in.

Aroma

One of my biggest pet peeves in cannabis is when strains are named after something they don’t smell like. I expected this Blueberry Caviar strain to lead with an intensely fruity nose, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The aroma of this strain starts with a rich, fruity punch of blueberries. It deepened into a dank, gassy note with slightly light earthiness on the back. Some strain resources report a creaminess to Blueberry Caviar, but my nose didn’t pick that up from this bud.

The aroma intensified once I ground the flower up; in addition to the unmistakable scent of blueberry, I also got strong notes of gasoline and rich dankness.

Flavor

A dry hit of my joint was all fruitiness. The flavor centered on the blueberry notes with a hint of dankness, losing the gassy punch I got in the aroma. A light whisper of pine and earthiness came through, but overall, the flavor wasn’t as intense as the aroma of the ground flower.

The High

Blueberry Caviar is a creeping strain. It doesn’t all set in at once when you’re done smoking it, and more than once I wondered if it was kicking in. 10 minutes later, I knew it was. It’s a high in equal parts body and mind.

I was a little spacey and a little in my head. My mind was open and wandering; Blueberry Caviar inspired non-linear thinking. I could focus, but it had to be on something that I could take an unusual approach to, not something like multiplication tables that only have one right answer. I was a little relaxed without being sedated, and I could easily drift off.

This strain is good for wake and bakes and daytime use, when you’re looking for something to take the edge off without putting you on the couch. I could smoke a bowl of this or hit the bong and then start writing, or painting, or even dancing around my house. Its heady effects make it a little too busy for me in the evening.
