Dr. Dabber Switch 2 Review: 1837 Sessions Later…Is It Worth It?

I’ve been burned before. Literally and figuratively, I’ve been burned by both e-rigs that promise to replace the torch but never do and by next-gen devices that aren’t really worth the upgrade.

But when Dr. Dabber Switch 2 dropped, I knew I had to get my hands on it, given how legendary the OG Switch was. The sequel had massive shoes to fill, so I kept my expectations low.

I bought it, ran 1837 sessions through it, and here’s what I have to say.

Dr. Dabber Switch 2 Review: Pros and Cons

I’m gonna hit you with the bottom line up front because I know some of you just want the gist. So, here are the pros and cons of the Dr. Dabber Switch 2 e-rig.

Heated dabber for easy drops
Easiest e-rig to clean

Cons

Still pretty big and definitely an at-home device
The price tag is just as premium as the quality

That price, by the way? After 1,837 sessions, it works out to less than a quarter per dab, and not a single disposable atomizer replaced. Do with that what you will.

The E-Rig Design Is a Hit or Miss

The first thing you’ll notice is the design. The OG Switch got some flak for being clunky, so efforts were made to make Switch 2 lighter and more portable, and it is. You could carry it with you, but it’s still too big for that, and I use it as a desk rig.

It’s around 3 pounds and kinda looks like a coffee machine—some folks like that, some don’t. That’s a personal preference, but since I use it at home, I happen to enjoy the sleekness of it. You’ve gotta take the glass attachment off, but don’t pull it. Instead, slide it out from the bottom up.

I gotta say, the glass is pretty sturdy. I dropped it once, and it didn’t crack or anything. The quartz insert lets you put as big a hash as you want, and it’s my favorite thing about this rig. The tech is unrivalled, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The Induction Heating Technology Is Undefeated

What I like most about Dr. Dabber Switch 2 is the 20 mm quartz insert. You can also get a sapphire insert, and both do flower and concentrates. That small banger carries the device and brings out my top 3 favorite things about this e-rig:

Clean and smooth dabs with aftertaste
Minimal cleaning and maintenance
Cool magnet technology that lets it just slide in

You probably already know that most electric rigs use coil-based heating. A wire heats up, the heat transfers to your chamber, and you get inconsistent temperature, uneven vapor, and, after a while, that awful aftertaste.

Switch 2 uses omnidirectional induction heating, which means no exposed coils, no heat transfer lag, and real-time temperature adjustment. This makes every dab taste like the first one and keeps the terpene profile consistent, which is something flavor chasers like myself appreciate.

That is something really impressive and worth raving about, as it’s the closest an e-rig has gotten to replicating the control of a real torch-and-banger setup. I also like not having to replace the banger every so often.

Unrivaled Heat Mode Settings and Vapor Switch 2 has 5 temperature settings, ranging from 400 Fahrenheit to 540 Fahrenheit for cloud chasers. These are marked by colors that are displayed as LED lights on the device. Real-time temperature control keeps the temp consistent regardless of the amount loaded and whether you inhale or let it sit idle.

The best thing you can customize is the heating profiles, which give you a lot of control over the experience. There are 3 modes you can go with:

Steady mode: Keeps the temperature flat and consistent throughout the session.
Ascent mode: A nice, low-temp start with a gradual rise that unlocks additional layers of flavor and vapor density and burns at the end.
Descent mode: Starts off strong and cools down towards the end, mimicking the traditional torch dab experience.

You adjust these on the app just like the hold times, which go up to 90 seconds. Just be aware that longer hold times drain the battery.

The Dr. Dabber Sync App

The Dr. Dabber Sync app is available for both Android and iOS users. It’s where you go to customize and fine-tune the heating profiles and hold times, but you absolutely don’t have to use it all the time. If you just want to hit one real quick or share it with a friend, you can totally do it without the app, and I don’t use mine most of the time.

The Battery Life is Solid

The battery life can last up to 50 heating cycles on a single charge, depending on your temperature settings and session length. Mine usually does around 15-20 before I need to charge it. Charging takes an hour, and you can still use the dab rig while it’s plugged in.

Is Dr. Dabber Switch 2 Worth It? The Bottom Line

1837 sessions and not a single thing replaced. That alone makes Dr. Dabber Switch 2 one in a thousand. But the clean, smooth dabs are what seal the deal for this flavor chaser. Cloud chasers would state the thick vapor.

Many among both will agree that the experience and the performance are the closest to a traditional torch you can get. Nothing with a coil, a ceramic bowl, or a silicone mouthpiece is going to compete with this. If you’re a serial dabber, you will find Switch 2 to be worth the price, and you will find yourself mostly reaching for this vaporizer during your home rituals.
