Purple Starfruit by Knack Prerolls Review

Preolls are very hit and miss.

I’m a stoner who loves to smoke joints, and when I’m on the road, nothing beats the convenience of prerolls. But usually, these little cones are machine-stuffed to the gills with old trim and shake so tightly that you can hardly even draw air through them, leaving you to huff and puff away, watching as your joint canoes and half the weed goes to waste.

This is especially true for larger joints, like 1-gram, but it can be equally true for half-gram joints. But I’m ever the optimist, and I’m always on the lookout for a preroll that hits well, smokes evenly, and delivers a pleasant high experience.

On a recent trip to New York in September, I got my hands on these Knack half-gram prerolls with Purple Starfruit. I love a half-gram preroll because it delivers the perfect amount of THC to lift me up, but keep me functional.

It was my first time trying the Purple Starfruit strain.

Purple Starfruit Preroll Review

Lineage

Purple Starfruit is a hybrid strain with a questionable family tree. Some sources insist the original Australian cultivator has kept the genetics completely under lock and key, while others call it a three-way cross between Cake Mints x Platinum GSC x LilMissHS created by Galaxy Labs.

How much the origins of a hybrid strain matter is questionable. Some hybrids are true to their family trees, while others buck the effects of their parents’ strains and create an entirely new experience. In this case, since I had no origins to base my expectations on, I’ll classify Purple Starfruit as a true hybrid experience.

Aroma

The main smell of these prerolls is dankness. They smell like weed; a little skunky, a little earthy, and a whole lot of that indescribable dankness. I don’t mind when my weed smells like weed.

The batch number for the testing on these dates back to April 2025, and they were packaged in March, so the bud likely lost a little of its aromatics while sitting in storage. That said, I’d rather my prerolls smell like dankness than hay, grass, or nothing at all.

Flavor

A dry hit of these delivers mainly fruit notes. My palette isn’t the most refined, and it’s mostly “generic fruit”  to me, but I can pick up distinct pops of citrus in some prerolls, and a strong taste of grape in others. The grape really comes through in the flavor when smoking these.

Smoking

The first thing I noticed with these prerolls was how well they were packed. You get your money’s worth for a ½ gram, but you can actually (and easily) draw air through the filter. I always loosen my prerolls before smoking, but these didn’t need much.

There was a little canoeing, but overall, these Knack prerolls smoked well with a light draw and (blessedly) no canoeing.

Effects

Purple Starfruit delivered a functional high, one of my favorite states of being. I was lifted with a better mood, but I was still clear-minded and able to focus. I felt relaxed and calm, like I had the energy and the brainpower to lean into my tasks.

I enjoyed these prerolls at different times of day. I particularly liked them for a wake-and-bake, but they were also ideal for an afternoon pick-me-up. I journaled, stretched, walked the dog, and worked on some creative writing ideas after enjoying these. It was an ideal hybrid experience that leaned ever-so-slightly towards that sativa end of the spectrum.

Looking at the COA, there is a notable CBGa content that likely contributes to the uplifting effects of Purple Starfruit, in addition to the THCa.

All in all, these were perfect for enjoying without the mess of rolling a joint at my parents’ kitchen table, with a small enough dose to perk me up any time of day. I would get these again!
