Texas Oil Rush: Austin Locals Organize Texas’ First Rosin Competition

The Texas Oil Rush Puts Hemp Rosin in the Spotlight in the Lone Star State

AUSTIN, Texas – Austin cannabis community figures Justin Hoegenauer, better known as Justin the Ganjier, and Anaphat Chantangsu, known throughout the community as High Pie, have announced the launch of The Texas Oil Rush, an event billed as Texas’ first competition dedicated specifically to hemp rosin.

Texas established its Compassionate Use Program in 2015, followed by the creation of the state’s regulated hemp program in 2019. Since then, Austin has hosted countless cannabis and hemp gatherings, educational panels, community pop-ups and flower competitions. But hash rosin has yet to receive its own dedicated competition on this scale in the Lone Star State. The Texas Oil Rush aims to change that.

“Texas has an incredible community around this plant, and rosin deserves its own moment here,” said Justin Hoegenauer. “We want to create a competition that puts the quality of the product first while giving the people behind it a legitimate platform to show what they can do.”

The inaugural competition will take place Sunday, October 18, 2026, at The Glassmith, 2039 Airport Blvd. in Austin. A panel of 12 judges representing different sectors of the cannabis and hemp community will evaluate and score up to 25 rosin entries using a double-blind judging process. Texas brands with qualifying products and valid certificates of analysis may apply to compete.

The judging process will also be livestreamed from the event, giving attendees and viewers an inside look at the competition while bringing an added level of transparency to the scoring process. Dr. Dabber has joined The Texas Oil Rush as presenting sponsor and will provide the same e-rig devices to each judge, creating a consistent platform for evaluating every entry and helping ensure that each product starts on equal footing.

The setting itself will be uniquely Austin. A cornerstone of the local glass community, The Glassmith has built its reputation around American-made glass, functional art, education and live glassblowing. Its Airport Boulevard location will allow The Texas Oil Rush to combine the worlds of hash, glass, music, art and community under one roof. Live glassblowing will take place throughout much of the event alongside the rosin competition, allowing attendees to watch Austin glass artists work while the judging unfolds nearby. VIP ticket holders will receive additional access to the judges’ lounge and special vantage points overlooking the glass workshop.

Keeping with the event’s emphasis on Austin artists and makers, the inaugural Texas Oil Rush trophy will be designed and created by a local artist. But the competition is only part of the day. The Texas Oil Rush is being built as a larger celebration of the community surrounding the plant, with a vendor marketplace featuring farmers, artisans, makers and other independent businesses, along with live music, food, drinks, raffle prizes and additional programming throughout the event. Dr. Dabber will also operate an on-site dab bar for eligible attendees 21 and older.

For High Pie, the event is just as much about bringing people together as it is about finding the best rosin in Texas. “This is about good hash, good people and building something that feels like Austin,” said High Pie. “We want people to come out, experience it together, learn something, meet some great people and have a good time doing it.” As Pie puts it, “Great things are meant to be shared.”

General Admission tickets are $20, while the $120 VIP upgrade will be limited to just 25 guests. Updates, competitor announcements, judge reveals, sponsors and additional event details will be released through The Texas Oil Rush social media channels leading up to October 18. A limited number of sponsorship opportunities and vendor marketplace spaces are also still available, and organizers are open to select collaborations with businesses, artists and organizations that align with the community-driven spirit of the event.

Fat Nugs Magazine will serve as the Official Media Partner of The Texas Oil Rush, helping document and share the people, products, artists and culture surrounding the inaugural competition. For media interview requests, judging applications, sponsorship opportunities or vendor information, interested parties can contact High Pie or Justin the Ganjier directly through their social media channels.
