Free community event returns August 29 with farm tours, live music, and local BBQ. No cannabis experience required.

Grasshopper Farms, the 160-acre sun-grown cannabis farm in Paw Paw, will open its gates to the public on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 12 to 4 p.m. for its sixth annual Open House, a rare chance to step behind the scenes of a licensed cannabis cultivation operation during peak growing season.

Guests walk the rows of the fields in small groups, meet the farmers who grow the crop, and ask as many questions as they want. The event is part of the farm’s long-standing commitment to transparency and education, and everyone is welcome, not just cannabis enthusiasts. For Grasshopper Farms, it’s an opportunity to shine a positive light on an often misunderstood industry.

“This is our favorite day of the year, and the one we’re most proud of,” said Will Bowden, Founder and CEO of Grasshopper Farms. “When we started Grasshopper Farms, we wanted to create a place where cannabis was approachable. A place where a farm is a farm, a crop is a crop, and people can have open and honest conversations about what our industry is and what it is not. Our annual open house is where this vision comes to life.”

The tour will also feature a presentation from Cole Kraten, Grasshopper Farms’ Director of Science, pulling back the curtain on just how much science happens behind the scenes of a working cannabis farm. He’ll cover everything from testing to integrated pest management to the research and experiments the team designs to vet new technology.

What began as a neighborly gesture has grown year after year into a regional draw. Last year’s Open House welcomed guests representing seven states, with visitors traveling from across Michigan and beyond for a behind-the-scenes peek at the farm’s operations.

This year’s event adds a few new local touches: Smokin’ Oak BBQ will be on-site with its food truck, and acoustic duo Broke Joe and Johnny Cashless will perform live throughout the afternoon.
