Dr. Dabber Boost EVO Review: Best Portable Vaporizer?

We all fell in love with the Switch 2, and we all know none of us are actually carrying that thing anywhere. Dr. Dabber calls it portable because there’s no cord. To that, I say—no cord doesn’t mean portable. It just means wireless, and that’s not the same.

So when they dropped the Boost EVO, our expectations were high. We wanted the Dr. Dabber Switch 2 experience in something we could actually put in a bag. Does it deliver? Here’s my honest review.

Before I spill the beans, I’ll share a short overview of the pros and cons of the Boost EVO e-rig for all my skim readers out there.

Small Enough to Mean It

Your Boost EVO will come in a minimalist black case that has a place for everything. Everything is nicely seated, not flopping around, and I still have mine. The dab tool itself comes in black and white, but Dr. Dabber occasionally releases other colors, too, as limited offers.

It’s small and compact, and looks more like a soda bottle, making it easy to carry around, and it fits into cup holders, too. I also like how the glass bubbler arches towards your mouth, and you don’t have to tilt it, like you would with other vaporizers. It meets you halfway.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the atomizer is magnetic—you pull it out, lock it back in, and it seals pretty nicely. No threaded atomizers you have to screw in, and risk overscrewing them.

You can hold the device anywhere (by the glass or the base), and nothing falls apart. Some other portable dab rigs will, and if you hold them by the glass, the base will fall apart.

Take off the glass attachment, and you’ll notice that the concentrate bowl is right underneath it, instead of a chamber being outside, which is my favorite thing about this device.

The Quartz Atomizer and Airflow Release Valve

This is where Dr. Dabber takes the cake once again. I know what you’re thinking — if the atomizer isn’t showing, how do you agitate the extract? Well, let me tell you. The airflow release valve is built into the quick-connect adapter, sitting right below the glass attachment.

Instead of a carb cap, you have a carb button built in. It’s perfectly set right for your thumb and super convenient. That means one less thing to carry, one less thing to lose, and one less thing to not have on you when you need it.

It also means a direct vapor path from the quartz cup to the glass, instead of it going through a glass or silicone air path that could tamper with the flavor. This difference really shows in your dabs. The dabs are smooth, you can feel the terp, and you don’t get that burnt aftertaste.

Heat, Temp Settings, and the Vapor Quality

Rare are the e-rigs that both flavor chasers and cloud chasers swear by, and Boost EVO is one of them. How? We’ve got its heat to thank for that. Boost EVO’s got 6 temperature settings:

Purple: 500° F
Blue: 550° F
Cyan: 600° F
Green: 650° F
Orange: 700° F
White: 750° F

You can probably tell that the flavor chasers like the lower temps, and that they come in 50° F increments, so you get more options in the lows of temps, which not many portable e-rigs offer. Few also go as high as 750° F, which is something cloud chasers appreciate.

Cloud chasers among you will also be happy to hear that the quality of the vapor is extremely good. It’s really thick and unrivaled among portable e-rigs of this size and price. The best part is that you can still taste the terp, even at the highest temperature setting.

You also don’t need (and can’t really use) the app to switch between these—you do it on the device, which is pretty dope for a portable device.

Battery Life: How Long Does Dr. Dabber Boost Evo Last?

The battery’s capacity is 2600 mAh, and it’s supposed to last up to 60 sessions, or 2 to 3 days of casual use. I will say that mine lasts a bit less than that, and it can go dead after a day’s use, but maybe that’s because I’ve had it since the pandemic. You charge it for about an hour or two with a fast USB-C cable.

Is Dr. Dabber Boost EVO Worth It? The Bottom Line

Honestly? Yes. It doesn’t compare to Switch 2 when it comes to customization, and you can’t smoke dry herb in it. But it’s also not a desk-bound spacecraft. It’s small and compact, and easy to use—just what you need from a portable e-rig. It’s not the cheapest, but what you get beats some of the more expensive e-rigs out there, too.
