We’ve all been in a spot where we wanted to get a smoke in, but didn’t want anyone to be the wiser. Which is why the Hot Box Tyson 2.0 from Higher Innovation was a product that I needed to test, as I travel for work and have snooping young eyes in the home.
It promised portability, functionality, and most importantly of all, efficient odor control in a compact personal air purifier.

Portability
When I first received my Hot Box, I was immediately impressed with its compact size. The entire unit is less than an 8” cube after removing it from the handy, smell-proof carrying case, which had compartments for my scented spray, charging/wall plug-in, the unit itself, and a couple of spare pockets.
I also appreciated the added feature of the customizable locking zipper and the quality of the shoulder strap that was included. It is clear before even turning it on that this filter was thoughtfully designed to travel easily and fit into the smallest of spaces. The Hot Box is capable of being where you need it to be, and its 6-hour, single-charge running time gives you the freedom of on-the-go consuming discretion.
Functionality
After being thoroughly impressed with the Hot Box’s compact size, my next big question was, is it going to be able to handle the task of keeping the dankest of smoke under the radar? To do this tough job, Higher Innovation has equipped the Hot Box with an impressive list of thoughtfully executed features: three layers of powerful filtration containing a carbon foam pre-filter, an efficient HEPA particulate filter, and activated carbon pellets, which do an efficient job of eating any odor.
The device is powered by four preset fan speeds, which are more than enough to see the smoke literally being sucked right into the unit. The magnetically removable front and rear plates, for access to the filter and fan, demonstrate a user-friendly approach to maintenance. In addition, the scent puck in the rear plate provides the perfect place to spray the scented spray, which is included.
Effectiveness
I placed my Hot Box on the side of my office desk and lit a spliff of local homegrown cannabis. Marsquake is known for a creamy mix of pine and diesel fuel, and I purposely picked this variety because – plainly put – it reeks!
I double-clicked on my unit and started to puff. My ashtray was near the filter, and my eyes focused on the smoke being drawn into the unit. I was literally amazed at what I was seeing and NOT SMELLING!
Even large bellows of smoke not blown directly into the direction of the Hot Box were being pulled from the air into the unit. The Hot Box was actively scrubbing the smoke out of the air and doing a marvelously efficient job while being tucked away inconspicuously.
I finished my spliff and left the office to see how long it would take to clear the room completely. The true proof would be when I re-entered the room after giving the Hot Box to finish its job.
