Easy DIY CBD Lavender Salve Recipe

This CBD lavender salve is wonderful for winding down after a long day! It’s quick and easy to make at home, and it’s incredibly moisturizing, making it perfect for fall and winter skincare. After a nice hot shower (or bathtime), apply this salve to quiet the mind, settle the body, and drift off to sweet dreams in no time.

Important: this topical delivers localized cannabinoids to the skin. It does not pass through into the bloodstream and is safe for anyone of all ages to use.

Equipment

  • Instant Pot (or pressure cooker) with trivet
  • Mason jar with lid
  • Kitchen scale
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • 4-cup glass measuring cup or heat-safe bowl
  • Kitchen towel or heat-resistant gloves

How to Make CBD Lavender Salve at Home

Part 1: Make Infused Oil

Infusion Ingredients
  • 3.5 grams CBD flower or shake (adjust for desired potency)
  • 1 tbsp cooking-grade lavender flower
  • 8 oz (1 cup) melted coconut oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Optional: 1 tsp organic sunflower lecithin (for better absorption)

Step 1: Decarboxylate the Cannabis

  1. Weigh and Prepare
  • Weigh 3.5 grams of CBD flower or shake using a kitchen scale.
  • Break the flower into small pieces (do not grind too fine).
  • Place cannabis in a clean mason jar and loosely screw on the lid
  1. Set Up Instant Pot
  • Pour 2 cups of water into the bottom of the Instant Pot.
  • Place the trivet inside, then set the mason jar on top of it.
  • Secure the lid and set the steam valve to Sealing.
  1. Decarb
  • Select Pressure Cook (or Manual) on High Pressure for 40 minutes.
  • When the cycle finishes, carefully quick-release the pressure.
  • Remove the jar using heat-safe gloves and let it cool slightly.

Step 2: Infuse the Oil

  1. Combine Ingredients
  • Open the cooled jar and add 8 oz of melted coconut oil.
  • Add 1 tsp sunflower lecithin.
  • Add 1 tbsp cooking-grade lavender flower.
  • Stir gently.
  • Secure the lid (finger-tight).
  1. Infuse in Instant Pot
  • Place the jar back inside the Instant Pot.
  • Make sure there are 2 cups of water at the bottom (add more if needed).
  • Lock the lid and set the steam valve to Sealing.
  • Cook on High Pressure for 40 minutes.
  1. Cool & Strain
  • After the cycle, quick release the pressure and carefully remove the jar.
  • Let it cool until safe to handle.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a 4-cup measuring cup.
  • Transfer the finished cannabis coconut oil to an airtight container.
  1. Storage & Use
  • Store in a cool, dark place or refrigerate for up to 2 months (or freeze for longer).

Part 2: Make the CBD Salve

Equiptment + Ingredients
  • 214 ml CBD-infused lavender oil
  • 15 g Beeswax (grated or pellets)
  • 118 ml sweet almond oil or jojoba oil
  • 3 oz metal tins for balm storage
  • Optiona: 4 – 6 drops Essential Oils of choice
Instructions
  1. Using a double boiler, combine the wax with the carrier oil and gently allow it to melt over medium heat.
  2. Once melted, remove the mixture from the heat and gradually add the CBD lavender oil and essential oils to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  3. Carefully transfer the mixture to 3 oz metal tins or other storing vessels that can handle the heat. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  4. Cover with lid and store in a dark, cool place until ready for use.
Storage
  • Keep refrigerated for optimal freshness for up to 1 month.
