I’ve been a cannabis consumer for 12 years, and I’ve never in that time been able to roll a joint. It’s safe to say I have entirely given up by this point, but I was introduced to the Cannagar mold, and it seemed to be the perfect solution to my rolling ignorance. Spoiler Alert: it’s pretty dope.
Who Is Purple Rose Supply?
Purple Rose Supply is probably best known for its Cannagar molds, but they don’t stop there. They are a fusion of passion-meets-career-meets-accessibility. Sidney and Raveena both came from the world of tech, but cannabis is where they found a calling. You can check out the full Q&A with them here. They are truly dope people on a mission to give cannabis consumers like me, who are rolling illiterate, the ability to pack a good joint that doesn’t go out constantly
What Is A Cannagar?
If you’re not super deep into cannabis like some of us, you might wonder what the heck a cannagar is to begin with. For starters, it’s bigger than the 1g joints you’re used to. These are typically 3-10 grams and can be infused or not. Typically, you’d see these being passed around a group, it’s very much a social product. Being that hefty, though, means the price can get pretty up there if you’re not careful.
How to use a Cannagar Mold
You’ll want to make sure you grind your bud well so it packs evenly. There are small wood skewers that go in the mold first. Once it’s locked in, you’re ready to get to business. You fill the funnel-shaped opening, which can be a little messy if you have a smaller mold. Regardless, you funnel small amounts in and pack firmly. If you hand roll or pack cones, it will go against every instinct, but trust me, it’s worth it – just pack it as firmly as you can.
Once it’s full to the top and well packed, I’ll let it rest for at least 30 minutes or so. This part isn’t needed for the smaller molds, but I feel like it’s just easier to handle after that. You can drop it in a cone or wrap it with your choice of leaf or paper. If you’re feeling fancy, you can add swirls of concentrate before wrapping it to take it up a notch.
The Cannagar Sesh
The biggest thing is they say these last longer than your average J. Is that true? Yes definitely. Lighting up a true cannagar is an experience and a slower sesh for sure, and oftentimes a little more whimsical and daydreamy. This is by no means a bad thing, but if you’re in the mood for a quick sesh before you hop on your next call, it’s probably not the way to go. If you have time to pump the brakes and really enjoy your sesh, then 100% bring out the cannagar mold.
Is The Cannagar Mold Worth It?
I think it can be. For someone like me who can’t roll, this gives me the ability to pack in a way that actually stays together and will stay lit. That alone makes it a yes for me. As a bonus, it would make a great gift for that stoner in your life.
After familiarizing myself with the mold, I took to packing without the stick through the center. Granted, it was packed on the loose side, but after a short rest and wrapping it up, it smoked beautifully. It’s all-around a great tool, and for the price, I’d happily add this to my cabinet of curiosities again.
The price point is right around $50, and to me, that’s neither too high nor too low for a tool that can and will be used indefinitely. I’m here for it 100%!
