Point Breeze Khalifa Kush Review

My apprehension of high-potency, indoor-grown cannabis strains is well-documented

So often I find that these strains are unbalanced and hit too hard, leaving me stoned with a headache. The best cannabis strains, indoor or outdoor grown, are balanced, with a robust terpene profile and the presence of minor cannabinoids. When I was gifted this jar of Point Breeze, I was interested but wary.

Color me suspicious no longer. Point Breeze by Khalifa Kush proves that high-potency indoor-grown cannabis strains can achieve balance, delivering an intense yet comfortable high experience.

Point Breeze by Khalifa Kush Review

The lineage

Point Breeze is a cross between the beloved Khalifa Kush and the incredible Gastro Pop. It’s one of those strains that you expect to smell incredible and hit well simply based on the genetics alone.

This strain is an indica-dominant hybrid. While some hybrids buck the effects of their parent strains, others lean right into the good stuff, and Point Breeze hits like a classic late-afternoon indica. Point Breeze is a type I chemotype, with a dominance of THC.

Bud appearance

These nugs were gorgeous. Well trimmed and shiny, a thick reflective layer of trichomes glinting under my kitchen lights. The flowers had dark undertones with pops of a purple so dark it was almost black, contrasting against the green buds and orange hairs.

These buds were comfortably sticky. In the arid climate of Northern New Mexico, it can be hard for me to keep bud from crumbling into dust. Point Break came in a Cute KK branded glass jar that was easy to pop a Boveda pack into.

Aroma

Point Breeze leads with a strong nose of gas from the moment the jar is opened. When I inhaled deeply, I got fruit tones behind the gas. Perhaps it was sweet citrus or berries (the website describes it as grape bubblegum); it wasn’t incredibly distinct to my nose, but it was layered. Once the bud was ground, it was straight gas.

Flavor

I enjoyed this strain in joints, bowls, and in my Arizer Extreme Q table vape. When smoked, the flavor was all gas and dankness, but in the table vape, fruity notes were incredibly prominent, especially in the first two bags of vapor. It tastes very similar to how it smells; no surprises here.

Effects

The high was exactly what I was hoping for from a descendant of Khalifa Kush: heady and intense, but not overwhelming. It’s definitely sedating. I enjoyed almost the entire jar while on my couch recovering from the Fat Nugs activation at the California State Fair in the sweltering Sacramento heat. Point Breeze made it easy to lean into how tired I was while I made a big dent in my second re-watch of Letterkenny on Hulu. (If you haven’t seen/ heard of this show – I highly recommend it. It’s 30 minutes of Canadian comedy, a feel-good show if there ever was one.)

Even if I hadn’t been recovering from a hot weekend on the road, this weed would have sat me firmly on the couch. I wasn’t exactly locked into place, but I had no desire to move either.

Point Breeze is a potent strain. This batch tested at about 32.9% THC, which is typically out of my comfort range. But I have to give Khalifa Kush credit – this was a well-balanced smoke. The bud had a great texture and stickiness, and it was incredibly aromatic while whole and ground, which speaks to a quality dry and curing process.

No COA

There was only one thing that bugged me about this strain: the linked QR code on the jar took me to the Khalifa Kush website, not a COA, and I couldn’t find a COA linked for this batch. I always like to peruse my lab results to get an idea of the terpene profile and any minor cannabinoids in this bud.

The bouquet of terpenes was evidence, and the label on the jar told me this bud had 0.11% CBD. A COA would have been able to take a deeper dive into this strain, noting any presence of cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, or CBC.

Smoke What Wiz Smokes

If anyone knows good weed, it’s Wiz Khalifa. But celebrity status doesn’t always translate into a viable or quality cannabis brand. This was my first experience smoking Khalifa Kush – but it won’t be the last. I was delighted to discover that KK sells in New Mexico, and while it’s not available in Taos, I’m sure I’ll come across another strain on a day trip in Albuquerque.
