There are a handful of smoke sessions in my life that have stuck with me. Most involved good people or unforgettable places. Jamaica with the Fat Nugs team. Infrasound Music Festival. Late nights at Apartment 113 afterparties. Those memories are tied to people and music. This one was different.
It was a quiet solo session in my garage on December 11th, 2025. My son was due to be born the next day. Sleep was not happening. Nerves, excitement, and gratitude were all tangled together, so I stepped outside and lit something meaningful. That smoke was a Guava Gift Hash Hole.

I had met Craig and Melanie, the owners of Alpenglow Farms, earlier while they were on their way to accept an award for Best Outdoor Flower in California at MJBizCon. We talked shop. They talked about their sungrown operation in Humboldt County, their regenerative practices, and how they blend legacy farming with modern solventless work. Their award was for Jack Herer, but before we parted, they handed me a gift: a Guava Gift Hash Hole.

Alpenglow Farms is rooted in the mountains of Southern Humboldt. What began in the early 90s as an off-grid homestead grew into a multigenerational sungrown operation. Craig and Melanie cleared the land themselves and built the infrastructure needed to live with the mountain rather than against it. The result is flower with a terroir that clearly reflects its home and the stewardship behind it.
This was not their first recognition. A growing list of California State Fair awards already hangs on their walls, earned through consistency rather than trend chasing.
Guava Gift Hash Hole from Alpenglow Farms Review
The Guava Gift Hash Hole is part of Solful’s Handpicked Reserve line. It’s sungrown Guava Gift flower with a live rosin core, glass tip, and a thick, unapologetic roll.
The Lineage
Guava Gift itself is a cross of Guava from Garden of Grease and The Gift from Green Source Gardens. A perfect smoke for the occasion.
Guava Grease brings the tropical lift to the cross along with a bit of mystery in its lineage. Some trace it back to a Gelato phenotype. Others point toward Stardawg crossed with Afghan, but Cookies-era cuts helped push Guava into wider recognition.
However it came to be, the expression is unmistakable, bright mango and pineapple up front with a soft floral undertone and effects that feel uplifting, elevating, and social. The Gift anchors that brightness.
A true Humboldt heirloom; it brings depth and structure with notes of dried herbs, earth, and peppery spice. The experience is grounding and balanced, stabilizing Guava’s euphoria and giving the cultivar its weight and staying power.
The Aroma
Before lighting, Guava Gift hits with an attention-grabbing forward pop of lemon and mango zest. At its peak, the aroma leans into yellow Starburst territory. Beneath that loud fruit is a clear hint of herbal depth waiting to show itself.
The dry hit opens the profile further, leaving ripe mango on the palate with a spicy floral underpinning.
The Smoke
This pre-roll is big smoke for a solo session. No arguing that, but I was up to the challenge. On the burn, the airflow was smooth, the pack is even and a little on the looser side to help with clogging as the hash melts. The glass tip makes it easy to pull cleanly. The burn stayed consistent with no canoeing, and the smoke was thick and bold.
The Flavor
The flavor opens with that same fruit-forward mango dominance. The smoke coats the mouth in a way only sungrown flower can. Midway through the session, toasted herbal notes begin to take over, like grilled citrus.
By the final third, once most of the hash has melted, the profile goes deeper. Leathery, almost vanilla-toned flavors emerge with a cigar-like presence that lingers between pulls.
Despite the dense smoke and layered flavor, the mouthfeel stays light and smooth without becoming overly dry.
The Effects
The effects built steadily. A little less than a quarter of the way in, the mental shift kicked on. Euphoric, cerebral, and clear-headed. Midway through, the gates opened, and the relaxation that had been mostly mental settled into a full-body calm.
It was a balanced lift that never pushed toward couch lock or restlessness. Just centered comfort and a potent, well-balanced smoke.
